Florida Eye Specialists & Cataract Institute is excited to announce that Guggino Eye Care has merged with our team. We will be able to give our patients more opportunities for their eye care with Guggino Eye Care joining our practice.

About Dr. Guggino

Dr. G.S. “Jack” Guggino is a Florida native with roots in Tampa. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Tampa, where he went on a music scholarship and majored in English and biology. After graduation, he then attended the University of Miami Medical School and had a one-year rotation at Tampa General Hospital for his internship. During his stay with the United States Public Health Service, he had two years in research for glaucoma, an ophthalmology residency, and one year of general surgery. His residency was in ophthalmology at George Washington Medical Center. Following the residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology. After this, he returned to Tampa to start his practice in Pediatric Ophthalmology and he was also the ophthalmology consultant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dr. Guggino Eye Care Specialty

In addition to Pediatric Ophthalmology, other services currently at Guggino Eye Care include lazy eye treatment, glaucoma treatment, contact lenses and lens exams, double vision treatment, and routine eye exams. As a trained pediatric ophthalmologist, he has worked with children to help with a number of eye conditions, including nearsightedness, astigmatisms, farsightedness, tear duct problems, lazy eye, cross eye, droopy lids, and inherited eye diseases. He has also lectured throughout the country on the topic of strabismus and has introduced new techniques for strabismus surgery. By merging with Florida Eye, this partnership will allow for patients to receive further exceptional care all in one place, although Guggino Eye Care will still offer pediatric ophthalmology services from their current South Tampa office.

About Florida Eye

Florida Eye Specialists started as a standalone clinic but then grew to five locations. No matter your age, you can get highly trained and experienced doctors to treat, diagnose, and prevent conditions that include hyperopia, glaucoma, cataracts, myopia, and more. There are even cosmetic eye services that are from sources you can trust.

Why Visit Florida Eye and Get Regular Eye Care?

Taking care of your eyes is important in every stage of life. At Florida Eye, we hope the convenience we offer you will help you to get regular eye care. Eye diseases are common but can go unnoticed for a long time. Some may not even have symptoms in the beginning, making trips to the eye doctor even more necessary. Proper eye care may be able to spot health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure before your primary care doctor. While vision problems tend to happen as people get older, children also need eye exams to make sure their vision is healthy as well, making Dr. Guggino’s specialty and merger important. For example, amblyopia is one of the most common causes of vision loss in children and it needs to be treated quickly in order to avoid vision loss later on in life. There are some eye problems that indicate a visit to the eye doctor is needed right away instead of waiting for your next appointment. These include decreased vision, eye pain, redness or draining of the eye, floaters, halos or circles, flashes of light, or double vision.
