Cataract Care

We treat thousands of cataracts every year at Florida Eye Specialists and Cataract Institute; our highly trained surgeons offer a delicate touch in addition to their skill and expertise. Trusted by patients to receive the best of treatment, we are proud that so many patients place their trust in our hands.

A cataract is a “clouding” of the eye’s natural lens, which can result in objects looking blurry, hazy or less colorful. Cataracts are often described as looking through wax paper or cloudy cellophane. A developing cataract may also cause changes such as double vision and increased sensitivity to bright light. Most cataracts are related to aging, so the risk of cataracts increases with each decade of life starting around age 40. You should consider getting treatment because, if left untreated, cataracts can worsen and lead to a loss of vision.

Cataracts are diagnosed through various tests as well as dilated eye exams. We may employ tonometry and other diagnostic measures to ensure an accurate and precise lens placement. We are able to determine your candidacy for laser cataract surgery and predict any problems that may hinder a successful outcome.

Cataract surgery replaces the natural lens of the eye with an artificial lens referred to as an IOL or intraocular lens. This surgery is highly successful and has been dramatically improved over the years. Our surgical team utilizes the most advanced femtosecond laser on the market and can help deliver a precise and customized cataract surgery experience. We can restore your vision so that you have a better ability to work, read or just simply enjoy the beautiful sights life has to offer. With minimal risk involved, cataract surgery is one of the most performed surgical procedures in the United States and carries one of the highest success rates of any surgery type. This is an outpatient surgery and you will be able to return home the same day.

Our professional and experienced cataract surgeons include:

  • Gregory L. Henderson
  • Deen Gray King
  • Ana Maria Oliva
  • Dilip Rathinasamy

Routine eye exams are the best way to spot cataracts early. With exams, you will know the state of your vision health through a visit to our eye clinic.
